The Higher Education Language Skills Certification (French CLES) is a language certification accredited by the French Ministry for Higher Education (in a decree passed on 22 May 2000) which stems from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It allows students to obtain a certification to testify their skills in several different languages.
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) The CEFR was first published in 1997 and it is used as a guideline to describe learners’ achievements in foreign languages. It is a tool designed to support all foreign language professionals, as it gives a detailed description of the methods used for language learning progression.
9 languages, 5 skills
CLES is currently available in 9 different languages: English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Polish, Modern Greek and Russian. The certification will progressively become available in other languages. |
